Tin Lunch Boxes - Great Selection
Welcome to our tin
lunch boxes page! Tin lunch boxes are a great way to
store food that can be brought to work or school. Not
having enough time and wanting to save money is one of
the main reasons why many people op to bag their own
lunch. The problem with bags is that it does not keep the
food safe, and is susceptible to becoming damaged or
crushed. This also ensures that you know what you are
eating and can keep a healthy diet going no matter where
you are. The use of tin boxes did not start until the
early 20th century through the use of
tobacco tins, and have since established a solid foothold
that because a basic school necessity of the
youth.
For a very long
time, lunch boxes were great for grade school students so
that they could carry their snacks and have food which
was controlled by their parents. It is even more
important now, as the school lunches’ nutritional value
deteriorated and students are bombarded with ads and easy
access to vending machines. Many of these lunch boxes are
out to attract children and feature pictures of their
favorite characters, colorful designs and logs which can
be easily recognized. The tin lunch boxes have a long
history, and this also shows in the collector markets.
Some of these boxes come as exclusive limited editions
and can be sold for a pretty penny in the future. There
are already many rich people that owe it all to
collectibles such as these.
The first tin lunch
box was manufactured in 1935 by Geuder, paeshke and Frey
and it licensed a character that we all know; Mickey
Mouse. It was lithographed in an oval tin container which
later on evolved into the plastic and vinyl material
variants that we can find on the shelves today. Tin lunch
boxes were considered the most durable, and were the
first batch of lunch boxes ever produced. Metal lunch
boxes were preferred until the seventies, where a public
outcry that they could be used as weapons by children
momentarily hurt their sales.
Lunch boxes are
still around, and now thanks to some of the things that
happened in their history we mostly see plastic and vinyl
lunch boxes being carried to school. This does not make
the tin or metal lunch boxes any worst, as in actuality
they are much healthier vessels for food. It is however
up to the parents, and rules of the school if they can be
used by the kids. I have found some of the best prices on
the net, and a great selection and am confident that you
will find something here to fit your budget comfort
comfortably.
I am aware that
many of the shoppers here are in actuality collectors, as
many of these items are more known for their value in
that field. The years between 1950-1987 are said to be
the vintage period for metal and tin lunch boxes. This
was the period before plastic lunch boxes entered the
main stream, and there are some very rare and valuable
finds to be had from those days. Even though lunch boxes
have evolved over the years, they still serve only one
major purpose, and that is to hold food for us when we
are hungry.
